Hello everyone! I am Ms. Cameron, one of the 6th grade Reading Language Arts teachers at Kirkwood Middle School this year 🙂 I am so grateful to be a Cobra! A little bit about myself: I am originally from Virginia. I got my Bachelor's in English from the University of Virginia, and I am currently finishing up my Masters in Teaching at Austin Peay. I am engaged to be married, I have an amazing dog named Bagel, I love to hike, camp, read, exercise, take photographs, I love coffee, and I love to teach!

Class Description: This English/Language Arts class is designed to increase your communication skills through reading, writing, speaking, and the study of the English language. Our primary focus in language arts class will be reading texts critically and using those texts as a springboard for various writing styles, demonstrating the rules of grammar, and oral expression. This year you can expect to read a variety of fiction and non-fiction including novels, short stories, dramas, poetry, and essays. These writing pieces will model the different writing styles we will be working on ourselves. Writing assignments will include timed responses, journal writing, essays, critiques, and creative pieces. Vocabulary, spelling, and grammar assignments will also be an important part of this class. Items needed daily: - Pencils - Reading Notebook - StudySync Book (provided by the teacher, must be kept up with by the student) - Computer and charger - Folder or binder with pockets Absences If your child is absent, it will be their responsibility to retrieve their missing assignments from missing work bulletin board, complete them, and turn them in to their specific period's slot by the due date. Make-up work must be completed within a number of days equal to the number of consecutive days of the absences. For example, John is absent on Monday and Tuesday so his missing work will be due that Friday (he gets Wednesday and Thursday to complete the missing work). He was absent two days so he will have two days to make up the work. All of his missing assignments will be due on the very next day after his allowed days to make it all up. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Remind APP I will be using the REMIND APP this year to keep in touch with parents and students outside of school. The app will allow me to keep you up-to-date on classroom events and enable us to text one another in one convenient location. Please make your name in this app your child's name. My Remind code will be sent out with students.
